Quincy Government 101: School Committee
9 members, each serving two year terms. Each of the six wards elects a councilor to represent their issues. Three at-large counselors represent the city residents as a whole.

What does the School Committee do?
Policy: Reviews and establishes policies and educational goals for the district consistent with the laws and standards set by the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE)
Finance: Approves, reviews, and oversees the school budget
Staffing: Appoints, evaluates, disciplines, or terminates the Superintendent; approves staffing recommendations; sets performance standards for educators and other school district employees
Collective Bargaining: Designates a team to negotiate employee contracts
Curriculum: Approves adoption or revision of curriculum and textbooks
Advocacy: Advocates on behalf of schools and students
Communication: Develops the vision and mission of the school district; promotes communication between the community and schools
