March 5 presidential primary voting results

Nearly a quarter of eligible voters in Quincy cast ballots in the “Super Tuesday” presidential primary. Here are all of the unofficial results from the city clerk’s office, and below are some highlights.

  • Voter turnout in the primary was 23.52% (15,314 ballots cast out of 65,120 eligible voters). By comparison, 29.9% of voters cast ballots in the November 2023 city election.

  • President Joe Biden received about 75% of the 8,667 votes cast in the Democratic primary, while the next-highest vote getter was “no preference,” with 12%. (There had been a movement ahead of the primary to use “no preference” to signal support for a ceasefire in Gaza.)

  • Former President Donald Trump received about 68% of the 6,510 votes cast in the Republican primary, with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley coming in second place with about 30% of the vote.

  • “No preference” received the most votes in the Libertarian primary, with about 34% of the 137 votes cast. Chase Russell Oliver came in second, with 16% of the vote.

      • State Committee Woman: Sandra Merrick (~99%)

      • The group of candidates on the ballot won in every ward

      • State Committee Man: Alexander Hagerty (54%)

      • State Committee Woman: Beth Veneto (62%)

      • The group of candidates on the ballot won in every ward

    • There were no Libertarian party candidates on the ballot
