Recreation board meeting notes: 24.09.09

Meeting chaired by Rec Director Chris Rooney.

 

Summer program wrap-up:

  • 692 kids at 14 playgrounds (13 after Forbes Hill construction)

  • 50 playground leaders

  • Three field trips

  • Ryan Boat house: 170 registrations

    • 16 Boat house leaders

  • Happy Acres

    • 15 leaders

    • Three field trips

  • Aquatics:

    • 805 participants

    • 40 lifeguards on staff

    • 7,000 visits this summer

  • Clinics program:

2,500 participants

72 programs in total

 

  • Adult pickleball: 10 weeks, session opened tonight, 9/9

  • Planning for adult volleyball

  • Youth basketball: start first week in December

  • Learn to skate: start in November. Looking for someone to run that program.

 

  • Commissioner Dave Murphy, head of the Department of National Resources, said: "Chris did a remarkable job this summer. Taking over in June was hard. The number of issues that didn't come up was remarkable. He took over the track program too. It went better than (Dave's) wildest dreams."
