Recreation board meeting notes: 24.11.04

Meeting chaired by Rec Director Chris Rooney.

• Launch of New Recreation Scheduling Platform / Launched Connect Team. Being used already. Hugely helpful in getting staff where and when needed.

• Quincy Christmas Celebration: November 29-December 1

• Friday: lighting at 5:15 pm

• Saturday: Santa coming via helicopter

• Sunday: Christmas Parade

• Monday: Free public ice skating rink opens in Quincy Center (noon)

NEW BUSINESS:

Fall and winter programming / because of the Shannon grant money, have been able to start elementary school programs a month early. Each of the three targeted schools will get three days a week. 

· November after-school recreation program: Elementary

· November/December after-school volleyball: Middle & high school/ averaging 70 middle schoolers. Huge success. Have five employees there every night. Staff being paid by the Shannon grant.

· Recreation basketball skills and league / Registration opened this morning. Already have 100 signups. Will likely sell out this year too.

· Instructional ice skating / in our 3rd week. Chris is running the program w/ five QHS Hockey team volunteering plus other volunteers. 

· Ice skating rink / Launch December 2nd (Monday after Christmas Parade) at noon.

• Registrations for Quincy residents, 70 people on the ice, for 50 minutes

Discussion:

• Could we run a soccer skills course? Done previously, and was well attended.
