What do the local party committees do?

Quincy Votes! reached out to the local Republican and Democratic City Committees to find out more about the roles of the local party candidates on the March 5 presidential primary ballots.

Here is the response from Norman Tuttle, Chairman of the Quincy Republican City Committee:

“The composition of the Political Parties, existing within Massachusetts, is set and informed by Mass General Laws. All parties have a State Committee which is made up of representatives elected to represent the 40 State Senate Districts within the Commonwealth, when one each, man and woman is elected, to the State Committee they become members of the governing body of their respective political party, serving until the next presidential election.

“All of the 351 respective towns and cities have “Local Committees” who are also elected during the Presidential Primary held every four years. Town and Ward Committees may elect up to 35 members each, who will represent the party within the area from which they were elected. The Ward Committees, within a city, collectively comprise the City Committee.”

Thank you for your response!
