Winning Logo for Quincy Votes!

Submitted by the Quincy Votes! Youth Committee

Two local students have won a total of $400 and subscriptions to The Quincy Sun for logos they designed for QuincyVotes!, a new non-partisan volunteer group that aims to inform and empower all community members in Quincy to engage in local issues and to substantially increase voter turnout in city elections.

The contest, sponsored by QATV and Uncle Sam Rounseville, as well as QuincyVotes! volunteers, asked high school and college students in or from Quincy to design a logo for the new community organization. Fifteen entries were received by the contest deadline and the designs received more than 200 votes.

North Quincy High School graduate Nick Andrade won the top two prizes of $250 and $100 for his first and second place logo designs. Nick graduated from North Quincy High in 2018 and is a rising senior at Brown University. The design that took first place will become the new logo for Quincy Votes!  Nick said that he had a creative background in high school, including taking a graphic design course. His teacher was always encouraging of his efforts, which was very motivating. On hearing that he won both first and second place in the competition, Nick said, “I think voting is very important. I’m glad it was a competition about an issue where every voice counts.”

North Quincy High senior Sandy Cai won $50 for her third place design. When asked how she came to enter the contest, Sandy said that her teacher, Ms. Casimiro, encouraged her to submit a design when she learned about the contest.  Sandy has been accepted at Bentley University in Waltham for the fall.  She said, "I'm planning to major in marketing, and after that, do a masters in design."

QuincyVotes! is a new group formed by residents to encourage voter turnout and civic engagement. If you’d like to learn more about QuincyVotes!, visit quincyvotes.org or email quincyvotes@gmail.com.
