Library board meeting notes: 24.11.14

A Quincy Votes! member attended this meeting. While care has been taken in their creation, these notes are not official meeting minutes and may contain errors or omissions.

Approval of Special Budget Meeting & October 2024 Meeting Minutes / Approved (both)

Discussion: Board should review Robert's Rules of Order, and we can discuss next meeting under new business.

Director’s Report

  • No policy requests of the board.

  • Director provided a report of her attendance at a conference.

  • CREW is a “weeding” manual for libraries by Univ. of Texas. It classifies different types of material (children, teen, adult, fiction, nonfiction, stories) and the number of years to keep it. For example, nonfiction has a section on how many years since publication. Years vary by type (medical textbooks keep shorter than biographies). TCPL is not an archive, so we don't need to have every book in a series; don't have to keep prior editions. If it's ugly we can get rid of it. All the selectors are responsible for their own sections, but the director does spot checks of them.

  • City got a grant for additional resource at the library. Currently, Director Slymon meets with representatives from Father Bill’s, police, Manet Health and others. Now there will be an embedded social worker at the library. She technically works for Manet but is based in the library full time. She helps people figure out how to get doctor’s appointments, has snacks, is there Monday through Friday, 9 am to 1 pm. Resource is advertised by City, Manet, and the library. She has the media room (tiny study room outside the Quincy room) for her use during working hours.

Friend’s Report

  • Friends met on Tuesday. Bookstore is making money. (On track for 25% higher). They are planning holiday book store. There will be mini book store on a table in NQ Branch, with a box on the wall for honor-system payments. The Friends are doing their annual mailing. They are using new software to collect donations. Bookstore will be taking Venmo, PayPal, as well as cash and credit. Card sales are increasing every month.

  • The Friends get a lot of donations and have sorting teams working several hours a week.

Treasurer’s Report: Arthur Foley provided a Treasurer’s report. It was approved.

Old Business

● Bylaws update: Rough draft will be distributed when we get the OK from the City. People need to review, and then discuss all the comments, then decide on changes.

● Meet & Greet Committee Report: Thinking a casual meet and greet in February, in case we have changes in Trustees. Would like to invite staff, but not mandatory.

New Business: Nothing listed

Open Forum : No one spoke

Adjournment: 8:51 AM.
