Projects: Commissioner’s report

  • CPC application timeline. Last year submitted an application for the street hockey area in Houghs Neck. Going to resubmit the application and target a fall renovation if approved by CPC. (Brill Street Hockey rink)

  • Quincy 400 events are likely to show up on this board’s agenda

    • Hot Air balloon event in September

    • Flag Day Parade will double as Quincy 400 Parade, with larger fireworks display.

  • City has hired Matt Lowe (ran Bellotti Rope Camp) and will be spending time w/ youth leadership development; looking at possible locations for a ropes course and amenities. Apply to CPC next year most likely; will know more by end of Feb.

  • Part of 400 celebration, working w/ Massachusetts tribe to recognize Chickatawbut with a statue; RFQ received national response; working with state's community affairs (DCR); need state approval to put statue near their sacred land.

  • Clubhouse at Furnace Brook will be substantially complete by end of February (excluding parking lot and landscaping). Will then install 30 new trees. Drainage work is 99% complete. Seeing significant improvement on water sheeting off hill.

  • Regarding the work on the tower, looking at roof repair and stairs (lead department is Public Buildings). Tank is 33 feet in circumference and had a lot of water (because of roof leak) and a pipe was laid to drain it out, and the water in the tower was directed to a catch basin.

  • Discussion: Dog Officer (Nick Malvesti) is talking w/ City Council about leashing dogs at Pageant. Paul will ask him to come back. (State law is $50 fine for off leash.)
