Recreation board meeting notes: 24.08.05

Special: REPORTS FROM DIRECTOR AND COMMISSIONERS:

Director: Summer program update  

  • Week 6 of summer programs

  • Held 50 clinics throughout the City

  • 9 clinics ongoing this week

Shannon Grant: sent 8 people to the Summerfest program; won MVP of the Summerfest and won the Sportsmanship award. Other local communities also attended the Summerfest program.

Opened up the Town River Regatta today: Kids sign up themselves, and if they go, we provide the boats.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Summer Programs for August

  1. Playground Program: Using 13 playgrounds (closed Forbes hill with construction) moved them to O'Rourke and Merrymount. Playground programs will close on Friday, August 9th, with staff cookout.

  2. Ryan Boathouse Program: Ryan boathouse sailing lessons end this Friday, and Boat house will close on the 16th.

  3. Happy Acres Program: Happy Acres, located at Broad Meadows, will end next week. Discussion on whether suggestions are sought from school guidance counselors on who might be a good match for attending Happy Acres. The Director said that most campers are repeat attendees, with new ones coming in when they become age-eligible to attend. 

  4. Aquatics Program. Finish lessons this week, and family swim will occur next week. The week of August 19th will also do a lifeguard training program to help with staffing for fall and winter programs.

  5. Clinic Programs: Go through August 30th. There are 9 clinics this week; 5 next week, and 2 final week. 

 

NEW BUSINESS:

A. Final Summer Program Numbers - September

B. Fall Programming and Scheduling. Will be sending requests to schools for basketball, etc.
