What to expect during early voting in the 2024 presidential primary

Early voting has begun for the March 5 presidential primary! Every day from February 24 through March 1, you can vote at Quincy City Hall (1305 Hancock Street). From the City Clerk’s website, you can vote at City Hall at these times:

Saturday, February 24, 2024
8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Sunday, February 25, 2024
8:30 AM - 2:30 PM

Monday - Friday, February 26th - March 1st
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Here’s what you’ll see if you vote early:

You’ll spot big voting signs in front of the enclosed hallway connecting Old City Hall (at left) to New City Hall (right).

After you enter the building, you can either use the elevator in front of you to go to the second floor, or turn left if you want to take the stairs.

If you opted for the stairs, you’ll walk through a large hearing room.

Then you’ll come to a set of two staircases. Take either one to the second floor.

On the second floor (in the City Council Chamber), proceed to the check-in desk straight ahead of you. They will ask for your name and address and direct you to the table for your ward, where you will give your name and address again. Someone at that table will pass you a ballot and an envelope labeled with your name and address.

You will take a presidential primary ballot for either the Democratic, Libertarian, or Republican party (some specimen ballots are shown below; you can see specimen ballots for each ward here). In addition to being able to vote for a party’s presidential candidate, you can also vote for its state and ward committee members.

Take your ballot to one of the raised tables in the center of the room and use a felt-tip pen there to fill in the ovals for your choices. Then put your completed ballot in the envelope, seal it, and sign it.

Take the signed, sealed envelope with your ballot inside to the black bin near the door and slip it into the slot (it will be counted on primary day, March 5).

Pick up your “I voted” sticker and pat yourself on the back for strengthening our democracy!
