QV! fundraiser set for Jan. 31
The following letter was sent to our members and potential donors in early December:
Dear Friend,
We’re reaching out on behalf of Quincy Votes!, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose mission is to partner with community members in Quincy, particularly those from underrepresented groups, to engage in local issues and to participate in the electoral process.
We need your help! We are hosting our first fundraiser on Friday, January 31, at Cagney’s (214 Washington St) from 6 to 9 pm. Be a premier sponsor by donating $200 today. As a sponsor, you will receive two tickets to the fundraiser and your name in our program and marketing. Tickets for the event run on a sliding scale from $25 to $100. Donate today!
The fundraiser will ensure that more residents’ views on local issues are represented through our work to boost voter turnout in the 2025 city election. In the 2021 local election, voter turnout in Quincy was just 17% – far below the 70% seen in presidential races. Yet local elections arguably have a bigger impact on residents’ day-to-day lives, affecting housing costs, schools, traffic, and parks.
We will focus our outreach on precincts with some of the lowest voting rates in the city and high cultural diversity. Through bilingual materials, community events, and one-on-one outreach, Quincy Votes! will provide residents of those wards with nonpartisan information to help them cast their ballots.
Your support can make this happen.
With your help, we’ll:
Educate – Share clear, unbiased resources for informed voting choices
Empower – Ensure that eligible members of these underrepresented communities can make their voices heard by voting
Strengthen democracy – Boost participation and representation for a more equitable city
Please consider donating today to make a lasting difference. Learn more about us at quincyvotes.org and contact us at quincyvotes@gmail.com or (617) 669-1832.
Thank you for strengthening our community and democracy.
With gratitude,
Liz Speakman, Maggie McKee, Tere Rodriguez, Dave Shiga, Mary Lally, and Bill Spirito
